Starting your journey as a learning family can feel like a big endeavor. The amount of information on homeschooling and learning from home that you will find on the internet can be overwhelming. In this curated list of tools and resources, I share with you what I have researched, tested and can recommend. This list is intended to grow. So, if you have a suggestion for a tool or product, please feel free to contact me such that I can look into it.

BRAINSTORMING AND NOTE-TAKING
Evernote
Evernote is a note-taking app that allows you to both write your original notes and clip webpages and files. My whole homeschool "lives" on Evernote. I have notebook stacks organized by school year with one notebook per subject, plus one for meta stuff. The basic subscription is free. You can check it out here.

GRADEBOOK AND RECORD-KEEPING
Gradebook+
Gradebook+ is a free spreadsheet template. It is useful if you want to keep records of attendance, the subjects covered during a school year, and how your kid(s) performed. At the end of the school year, you can even print out a grade report. You can download the template here.

Language Arts

PHONOGRAM-BASED LANGUAGE CURRICULUM
Logic of English
Logic of English aims to build up spelling and reading in a logical, phonogram-driven way. There are two curricula that you can purchase from their website: Foundations (for younger students, age 4-7) and Essentials (for older students, age 8+). As a response to COVID-19, Logic of English now provides access to instructional videos on phonogram instruction and spelling analysis for both the Foundations and the Essentials curriculum. Brave Writer
Brave Writer offers a wide range of programs for budding writers from kindergarten through high school. Language mechanics is taught through 4-week-long courses that center on age-appropriate class reading. This program is very flexible and adaptable. You can have a look at their website here.

Miquon Math is an early elementary math curriculum that uses Cuisenaire Rods as tactile math props. The link to their website is here.

Singapore math kids homeschool learning family

Singapore Math
Singapore math is based on the national mathematics curriculum in Singapore. It approaches mathematical concepts in three steps: concrete, pictorial, abstract. You can look at their programs here.

Deep Space Sparkle - named after a Crayola color - was founded by an elementary school art teacher. It is a great resource for colorful, inspiring art projects to a large variety of topics. The website also offers paid programs. You can look at it here.

Cornell Lab of Ornithology
If your kids are interested in birds, this is a great place to start teaching them about how to think like a scientists. The K-12 program of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology offers everything from information on birds, family activities, citizen science, and curricula. You can check it out here.
